Product Description
Double pitch roller chain
Challenge double pitch roller chains are produced to ANSI B29.3 and ANSI B29.4 standards. The dimensions of these chains are similar to standard roller chains except the pitch is doubled, resulting in typically lower drive costs thanks to the reduction in the number of components per metre.
Specifications
Light conveyance: General uses.
This is the most commonly used conveyor chain and is utilized widely in the auto parts, electric, electronic, and precision machinery industries.
Application
Double Pitch Roller Chain has the same basic construction as Standard Roller Chain, but double pitch means the chain pitch is twice as long, has flat-shaped link plates, and longer attachments. This series is regulated byANSI B29.4, ISO 1275-A, and JIS B 1803. the size, pitch, and maximum allowable tension for standard specification Double Pitch Roller Chain.

Can double chains be used in high-load conveyor applications?
Yes, double chains are well-suited for high-load conveyor applications. Their design and construction make them capable of handling heavy loads and withstanding the stresses and forces encountered in conveyor systems that transport bulky or dense materials. Here are some reasons why double chains are suitable for high-load conveyor applications:
1. High Load Capacity: Double chains are designed with a larger pitch and thicker plates compared to standard chains. This design increases their load-carrying capacity, making them capable of handling heavier loads without deformation or failure.
2. Robust Construction: Double chains are typically made from high-quality materials, such as alloy steel, that provide excellent strength, toughness, and wear resistance. These materials ensure the chains can withstand the demanding conditions of high-load conveyor systems.
3. Tensile Strength: The construction of double chains includes a solid bushing design that enhances their tensile strength. This feature allows them to withstand the high tensile forces generated during conveying heavy materials.
4. Fatigue Resistance: The design and materials used in double chains offer good fatigue resistance, which is crucial in conveyor applications where the chains experience cyclic loading due to the continuous movement of materials.
5. Smooth Operation: Double chains provide smooth and consistent operation, reducing vibration and noise during high-load conveying. This feature contributes to a more efficient and stable material handling process.
6. Extended Service Life: Due to their robust construction and ability to handle heavy loads, double chains tend to have a longer service life in high-load conveyor applications, reducing the need for frequent replacements and maintenance.
7. Compatibility: Double chains are compatible with various conveyor systems, including bucket elevators, drag conveyors, and other types of material handling equipment, making them versatile and widely applicable.
8. Cost-Effectiveness: Despite their capabilities, double chains are often a cost-effective solution for high-load conveyor applications, offering reliable performance and reduced downtime at a reasonable price point.
In summary, double chains are an excellent choice for high-load conveyor applications due to their high load capacity, robust construction, fatigue resistance, and smooth operation. Their ability to handle heavy loads and withstand the demanding conditions of conveyor systems makes them a reliable and efficient option for material handling in various industries.
Can double chains be repaired or must they be completely replaced?
In most cases, when a double chain is worn or damaged, it is recommended to replace the chain entirely rather than attempting to repair it. Double chains are complex systems consisting of interconnected components, such as pins, bushings, rollers, and plates, which work together to provide reliable power transmission. If any of these components are significantly worn or damaged, repairing the chain may compromise its overall performance and reliability.
Replacing the chain ensures that all components are in optimal condition, providing consistent and reliable power transmission. It also reduces the risk of unexpected chain failure or damage to other components in the system.
However, in certain situations where the wear or damage is minimal and localized, it may be possible to repair the double chain. This typically involves replacing individual components, such as damaged pins or rollers, with new ones of the same specification. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and consult with a qualified professional to determine if repair is feasible and to ensure that the repaired chain meets the required specifications and performance standards.
Overall, while repairs may be possible in some cases, it is generally recommended to replace a worn or damaged double chain to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety in power transmission applications.
Can double chains be used in corrosive or harsh environments?
Double chains are designed to withstand a wide range of operating conditions, including corrosive or harsh environments. However, the suitability of double chains for such environments depends on the specific materials and coatings used in their construction.
In corrosive environments where there is a presence of chemicals, moisture, or other corrosive substances, it is important to select double chains made from corrosion-resistant materials. Common materials used for corrosion resistance include stainless steel, nickel-plated steel, or coatings such as zinc or chrome plating. These materials provide protection against rust and corrosion, ensuring the longevity and performance of the chain.
Additionally, in harsh environments where the chain is exposed to extreme temperatures, abrasive particles, or high levels of dirt and debris, special considerations should be taken. Lubrication plays a crucial role in protecting the chain from wear and corrosion in such conditions. Using lubricants that are specifically formulated for harsh environments can help to maintain the chain’s performance and protect it from damage.
It is important to carefully assess the specific environmental conditions and consult with chain manufacturers or industry experts to determine the most suitable double chain for corrosive or harsh environments. They can provide guidance on the selection of appropriate materials, coatings, and lubricants to ensure the chain’s durability and reliability in challenging operating conditions.
